Student Loan Scheme Was Built On Weak Base, We Need To Rethink Our Education- Victoria University V/Chancellor Lawrence Muganga

Victoria University has dismissed allegations that it is among the higher institutions of learning in Uganda offering fake and expired academic programmes that are no longer accredited by the National Council of Higher Education (NCHE).

This followed a viral statement that has been making rounds on social media platforms allegedly issued by NCHE claiming that ten programs offered by this University are expired.

Fake Statement From NCHE

The programs in the viral statement are; Master of Arts in public administration, Diploma in human resource management, Diploma in business administration, Diploma in information technology, Foundation program, Bachelor’s degree in finance and banking among others.

In response, however, Victoria University says the above statement is fake and not issued by NCHE as it purports.

”This is to draw your attention to the above subject which has been making rounds on social media stating that Universities in Uganda including Victoria University are running expired academic programs. This is to inform you all that we have contacted the NCHE and established that the document being circulated is fake news and should be treated as such,” reads a memo to students inked by Victoria University’s academic registrar.

The University adds that currently all the programs offered are up to date and meet all the required standards set by the NCHE.

”We are not running expired academic programs at VU. The academic programs of VU are always submitted on time to NCHE for re-accreditation and meet the required standards,” adds the memo.

Victoria University’s Memo

To cement this memo, it’s worth noting that this same University was in 2022 commended by NCHE for offering quality education to Ugandans and for innovating a state-of-the-art online learning system that is at an international level.

Equipped with dozens of courses that are at an international level, Victoria University has for years proved to be in ‘the driving seat’ academically committed to playing a leading role in bringing and developing high-quality education, student-centred learning opportunities based on standards of excellence that are unique, innovative and difficult to match.

The University has since launched a couple of programs like Career Readiness & Employability Program aiming to equip students with world-class hands-on skills and boost their experience before graduating, which will give them higher chances of being considered in the job market.

The University also this week launched a ‘Learn Germany-Work in Germany’ program that will connect its students with exciting job opportunities in Information Technology (IT) and Tourism & Hospitality sectors in Germany.
