UN Peace Mission Amb. Paul Flynn Lands In Kampala To Lead PAP Delegation For Kyaka II Refugees Settlements Tree Planting Project

Just as we announced few months ago that UN Peace Mission Ambassador, Gro Foundation CEO and Pan-African Pyramid 2023 Global Award winner Paul Flynn would officiate at this year’s “Christmas with Kyaka II Refugees” project, we’re here to confirm his arrival into the country. The Germany born, Irish national living in Bulgaria currently jetted into the country on Wednesday night ahead of the event due on Tuesday 19th December 2023.

Flynn is also expected to officially launch the funding the 1st phase of official climate funding in Uganda, where over 250 million trees are targeted to be planted in Uganda by 2030, under the coordination of Inter religious Council of Uganda.

The ceremony is expected to be held at the palace (residence) of the Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Uganda His Most Rt. Dr. Stephen Kazimba Mugalu, in Rubaga Kampala, on Monday 18th, 2023. The chief guest is expected to be the Deputy speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon Thomas Tayebwa.

The Pan African Pyramid, every year in December with its partners collects relief aid like clothes, shoes, scholastic materials among others and donates them to refugees as part of their humanitarian works to foster the spirit of UBUNTU.

They’ve previously donated to Kiryandogo, Bidi Bidi, Rwamwanja and Nakivale refugees settlements in 2016,2017, 2018 and 2019 respectively. According to the Founding Speaker and Chairman of Pan African Pyramid Andrew Irumba Katusabe, they chose to donate to Kyaka II settlement this year to give hope to the 163000 refugees that currently live in the settlement.

“Of the 163000 refugees, 60% are youth and children, women are 25 % and men about 15%. That shows that children and women are the most vulnerable. We want to add some little smile to those children and the women this Christmas season,” Irumba confirmed.

The GRO Foundation and its GRO Initiative is a social-impact organization dedicated to planting 1 billion trees and helping to lift millions of individuals and families out of poverty by 2030 through creating sustainable livelihood projects and connecting grassroots communities to the global carbon market.

The organization does the above under a mission to fund “un-fundable” social impact projects using climate finance and aims at achieving its vision of enabling vulnerable communities, women, and youth to take control of their own future.

“It is a simple concept with a far-reaching impact. Our thesis is that reforestation and climate finance is not just about improving the environment. It is a tool to sustainably uplift communities and save lives,” added Gro Foundation’s CEO Paul Flynn, who was on 26, August 2023 awarded as an Environmental Philanthropist at the PAP Global Awards 2023 in Kampala.

While welcoming Mr Flynn into the country, Inter religious Council’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Documentation Manager, James Mukwaya expressed happiness to the effect that Paul was in the country to flag off the implementation of the 15 yr cooperation agreement signed recently between Gro foundation and IRC-U.

“His arrival into the country signifies the start of our journey that will see the growing of over 250m trees in Uganda in over 15yrs, in Buganda, Busoga and Tooro sub regions, using our IRCU structures,” he said.
