Uganda Airlines CEO Jenifer Bamuturaki Given Warm Welcome After Landing In S. Africa Ahead Of Uganda-S. Africa Business Summit
Uganda Airlines CEO Jenifer Bamuturaki was given a warm and exciting welcome as she landed in South Africa to be part of the South Africa Uganda Business & Investment Summit scheduled for 27th-28th February 2023 at Gallagher Convention Centre, Midrand.
Bamuturaki along with other Uganda Airlines officials were welcomed by South Africa’s traditional dancers when they arrived at O. R. Tambo International Airport.
Bamuturaki who has since transformed Uganda Airlines into a mighty regional Airline is to attend the summit accompanying her boss HE. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who is a key speaker at the summit.
The Summit which is expected to attract over 300 delegates, has the objective of providing a platform for the private sector, government, and business regulatory agencies to freely exchange views, ideas, and information on how to facilitate investment and doing business (including identifying existing and emerging business/investment opportunities for Uganda).
The Summit will focus on the following sectors: Tourism, Trade and Investment, Finance, Insurance, Professional Service, Manufacturing, Mining, Energy Resources, Agro-processing, ICT, Power Generation, education, and Infrastructure development/construction among others.
South Africa is one of the fastest-growing sources of foreign direct investment for Uganda. South African investments include areas like telecommunications (MTN Uganda), Breweries (SAB Millers), Finance (Stanbic Bank), wholesale and retail (Shoprite Checkers, Metro Cash and Carry, Woolworths, Game), poultry (Bokomo), energy (Eskom) and many others.
Trade relations between the two countries have also continued to grow. Uganda’s exports to South Africa include cotton, gold, fish fillets, tobacco, coffee, and fresh flowers. South Africa’s exports include machinery, motorcars, plastics, chemicals and electronics, parts and accessories, petroleum, live animals, books and newsprint, textiles, footwear, vehicles, aircraft and household goods. South Africa could strengthen links in a number of areas including information technology, health services, agro-processing, biotechnology and chemicals.
South Africa and Uganda concluded a Convention on the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Taxes on Income in 1997.
In May 200 they signed an Agreement on the Promotion and Protection of Investments.
In 2002, South Africa and Uganda signed a Bi-Lateral Trade Agreement.
The two countries have signed an agreement establishing a Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation. It will enhance cooperation in areas like defence, trade and investment, foreign relations, health, agriculture and education.
