Ruparelia Group Construction Firm VCON Awarded Multibillion Contract From Islamic University

Vcon, a civil engineering firm belonging to Ruparelia Group has scooped a whooping $9.1 million (UGX 34 billion) contract that will see the company undertake the construction of Faculty of Engineering at Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) based in Mbale District.

According to sources, the infrastructure under this project includes main faculty block and the hostels and is expected to be completed within 15 months.

Vcon represented by Ruparelia Group chairman Sudhir Ruparelia and IUIU principal Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda signed the contract last week after a no-objection letter by the IsDB, the funder.

Speaking after the signing, Prof. Gyagenda said the project was long overdue and asked the contractor to complete the works within the agreed time frame and adhere to the agreed specifications and standards.

“This project is very important as science and technology is the driver of growth in e country and the entire world,” Gyagenda said.

Dr Sudhir assured the university that the project would be completed on time without compromising standards and quality.

“Currently, our company has 11 ongoing construction projects and this is going to be added on with enough technical capacity,” he said.

Some of VCon’s completed projects include the multi-million dollar Kingdom Kampala Mall- a commercial building as well as two residential apartment projects- Tagore Living and Bukoto Living.

From initially exclusively constructing for the Ruparelia Group’s real estate and hospitality projects, VCon Construction is emerging as one of the large construction companies in Uganda, capable of handling more than 10 large projects simultaneously.
