Nine Confirmed Dead, Others Injured As Revellers Stormed Freedom City Mall To Celebrate New Year

Uganda Police Force has revealed has confirmed the death of nine people at Freedom City Mall.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire the victims died due during a stampede as thousands flocked to the mall to celebrate new year’s eve.
“It is alleged that the incident occurred at midnight when the event’s MC encouraged attendees to go outside and watch the fireworks display. After the display ended, a stampede ensued, resulting in the instant deaths of five people,” Owoyesigyire said in a statement.
“The Katwe Territorial Police are investigating an incident of rush and neglect that occurred at a New Year’s Eve event at the Freedom City Mall Namasuba,” he added
He further noted that emergency responders transported several casualties to a hospital where a total of nine fatalities were confirmed adding that the bodies have been transferred to City Mortuary Mulago.
