President Museveni Cautions Money Lenders Against Charging Exorbitant 20% Interest On Loans

President Yoweri Museveni has vowed to fight tooth and nail to crack down on officials involved in misusing Parish Development Model (PDM) programme and funds aimed at creating wealth for people at grass root levels that have since been mismanaged before even taking off.

Museveni made the revelation while addressing a gathering at Kaunda grounds in Gulu City on Friday as he concluded his Acholi sub-region tour on wealth creation.

According to Museveni, the NRM government has always been in direct contact with the people and its leaders and the population is entitled to speak out in case they fail.

”I listened to the people who expressed dissatisfaction with the way their leaders are handling PDM. I will address their concerns” Museveni said.

“In case the elected local leaders are compromised, I can meet with you directly like today. Therefore, the truth will come out, that’s why I came” adding that he had not seen PDM yet on the ground.

”While meeting the leaders of Acholi sub-region, I told them my visit to all the 18 zones of Uganda is to repeat my war on wealth creation I have been fighting since 1962” he noted.

The PDM project was launched by the President in February 2022 in Kibuku District where under the programme, each parish is expected to receive Shs100 million to benefit various categories of people to eradicate poverty through the execution of development activities.
