Homosexuals To Face Tough Times As Parliament Adopts Anti- Homosexuality Bill With Strict Penalties

The Parliament of Uganda this evening has passed legislation with tough penalties for people engaged in homosexual acts in Uganda.

While presiding over the united Parliament this time, the speaker of parliament AnitaAmong revealed that legislators will not shy away from protecting the sovereignty and morals of Uganda.

“This House will not shy to restrict any right to the extent of the House that recognizes, protects and safeguards the sovereignty, morals and culture of this country,” Among said after Parliament adopted the Bill on Tuesday evening.

Penalties under the new legislation include an over 10-year jail term for anyone who engages in same-sex relationships or identifies as LGBTQ among other Penalties that the offenders await to face.

President Museveni on March 16 branded gay people as “deviants” but noted that Tuesday’s amendments to the anti-homosexuality bill would be subjected to scientific findings.

“Is it by nature or by nurture? We need to answer those questions. We need a medical opinion on that,” Museveni said while addressing parliament.

The Bill will now await President Museveni’s consent.
