Fort Portal Police Arrests Three Arrested For Stealing Number Plates

The Joint Security Task Force in Fort Portal City, Kamwenge and Kyenjojo have in custody three suspects behind the theft of motor vehicle number plates.

According to Rwenzori West Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Vicent Twesige, a task team of the Flying Squad led by the RPC, and intelligence zeroed on one female suspect, identified as Bonabana Glades, an associate who led them to Kabonesa Sharon, a lodge attendant at Mutabazi Guest House where the prime suspect, one Kissebo Richard, was arrested.

”Upon arrest, Kisembo took our officers to various places of Kitumba, Bukwali, Kijura and others where around 12 motor vehicles were recovered,” says Police.

The criminal gang after plucking off number plates would leave behind their numbers 0759487032, 0760687751 and 0706 162394, where they would ask the victims to deposit one hundred thousand shillings (100,000) before telling them where the number plates are hidden.

”We want to urge members of the public not to give money to such criminal elements. Paying money encourages the vice. We have improved our capacity to deal with such criminals. Always report such cases to police for proper management,” Police said.

”The operation is still ongoing to recover more stolen number plates. The suspect is cooperating well with the investigating teams and more efforts to recover all the stolen number plates are in place.”
