Opposition party Forum for democratic change (FDC) on Tuesday morning revealed that their Secretary for Mobilisation Hon. Hassan Kaps Fungaroo had been kidnapped by ruthless gunmen from his home in Obongi county and driven away to an unknown destination.

”Our Secretary for Mobilisation Hon. Hassan Kaps Fungaroo has been kidnapped by ruthless gunmen from his home in Obongi county and driven away in a van, commonly known as Drone, to an unknown destination” FDC said in a statement.

Uganda Police have however revealed that Fungaroo was not kidnapped but rather arrested for holding unlawful assembly and inciting violence.

According to North West Nile Police spokesperson, ASP Ignatius Dragudu, Fungaroo was arrested after mobilising the community in Obongi to demand speedy action for the construction of a bridge on the River Nile in Laropi, connecting Moyo and Anjuman.

“He convened a meeting at night and started addressing people which is not allowed. During the meeting, Fungaroo made comments that amount to inciting violence,” Dragudu said adding that the former legislator will be produced in the courts of law soon.

Fungaroo late Monday announced he had been arrested by UPDF soldiers in Obongi District during his visit to pay tribute to the family of a Local Council I Chairman in the area.

”I don’t know which law I have broken. I don’t think there is a need to ask for permission to go and attend funerals in villages. By the time of the death of LC 1 Chairman’s father, I was not around and I’m told the RDC gave the order that I must be arrested when I return,” he reportedly said on the phone as he was being taken to police.

Meanwhile, FDC also revealed that the four Journalists including Scovin Iceta of NTV Uganda, Debo Ronald of Radio Moyo, Mustaf Safi of VON and Stephen Unzimai of Radio pacis who were following up on the kidnap have also been arrested and are currently detained at Obongi CPS.
