Education Minister Janet Museveni Orders Probe Into King’s College Budo Homosexual Allegations
The Minister of Education and Sports who is also the first lady, Janet Museveni, has ordered an investigation into allegations that teachers at King’s College Budo are facilitating homosexuality among students.
Following the allegations, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ketty Lamaro summoned a meeting with the school leadership and other stakeholders to discuss the allegations that have since left parents and social media users murmuring about the future of the famous school.
Though the details of the meeting remain scanty, those invited to attend the meeting included; Chief Administrative Officer of Wakiso district, the District Education Officer of Wakiso district, the Director of Education at the Church of Uganda, the Chairperson – Board of Governors of Kings College Budo, the Chairperson Parents Teachers Association of Kings College Budo and the Headteacher of the school.
“The purpose of this letter, therefore, is to invite you for a meeting scheduled for Wednesday 18th January 2023, at 3:00 pm in the Ministry Boardroom, 8th Floor Embassy House to discuss the matter,” Lamaro wrote.
She also invited the Director of Basic and Secondary Education and Commissioner of Government Secondary Education to attend the meeting.
The development comes after a social media post purported to be of a parent, whose son was sodomized by a teacher at King’s College Budo, went viral.
Another post alleging that the accused teacher was transferred to another school went viral, catching the attention of Parliament this week before Speaker Anita Among ordered the concerned government agencies to investigate the matter.
The school was founded by the Church Missionary Society in 1906 which makes it one of the oldest schools in Uganda.
It originally started as a boys’ school for the sons of chiefs and kings. In 1934 girls were also admitted making it a mixed-sex education school.
