City businessman Godfrey Kirumira, also known as Godfrey Kalule Kirumira, the chairman of Kwagalana Group, a club of the wealthiest tycoons in Uganda has sent out best wishes to the Kabaka of Buganda His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II as he celebrates his 68th birthday today.

On behalf of the Kwagalana Group, Chairman Kirumira congratulated the Kabaka upon adding another year further assuring the Kabaka of continuous support to Buganda Kingdom.

”The Chairman and members of the Kwagalana Group would like to congratulate the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II on his 68th birthday. The collaborating rich wish you good health, long life and vow to continue supporting Buganda to make ‘a dream come true’ in Buganda region” Chairman Kirumira said in his message to the Kabaka.

As one of the wealthiest people in Uganda and a Muganda by tribe, Chairman Kirumira joins a long list of high-profile figures, politicians, subjects and companies who have dominated the media to celebrate the Kabaka as he turns 68 years today.

The Kabaka of Buganda, His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II today, April 13, celebrates his 68th birthday and preparations for the celebrations are currently underway at Lubiri, Mengo in Kampala.

The birthday celebrations are taking place at the King’s palace in Lubiri Mengo flanked by the Royal family and a few subjects.

According to Owek David Mpanga who heads the organizing committee, the glamo function starts at noon on Thursday 13, April 2023 with attendance strictly by invitation only and will be attended by the Kabaka in person.

Mpanga told journalists at a press briefing in Lubiri Mengo on Tuesday morning that a total of 250 guests only will join the prestigious king for prayers, his cake cutting and lunch for about one and a half hours.

The ceremony will start with prayers led by Pastor Dr Moses Maka Ndimukika the Archbishop of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Uganda. The Kabaka will have lunch with his guests before cutting the cake.

The Kabaka Birthday Run 2023

As part of his birthday celebrations, Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II will on Sunday 16th, April 2023 flag off over 100,000 people expected to participate and the annual Kabaka Birthday in Mengo, Kampala.

The Katikiro of Buganda Kingdom Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga who presided over the launch of the 10th edition at Bulange, Mengo said proceeds from the run would help to support initiatives to End HIV/AIDS by 2030.

This year’s Run is intended to raise awareness and strengthen the efforts to fight the HIV/ AIDS epidemic in Buganda and Uganda at large, under the theme:

“The fight to end HIV/ AIDS by 2030.” “After putting up a strong fight against Fistula and Sickle Cells, the Kingdom embarked on a fight against HIV/AIDS in Buganda and in other parts of Uganda through the Kabaka Birthday Run which attracts over 80,000 participants annually,” Katikiro Mayiga said.

More About The Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II

Whereas most of us know him or have even seen him before, there are a few important facts we may not know about arguably Uganda’s most renowned monarch. Here are a few interesting facts you need to know about the Kabaka;

  1. His full names are Ronald Edward Frederick Kimera Muwenda Mutebi II.
  2. The Kabaka was appointed as UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador for Ending AIDS among men in Eastern and Southern Africa with a special focus on Buganda Kingdom.
  3. While in exile he worked as Associate Editor of the magazine African Concord and a member of the Executive Committee of the African National Congress (ANC) in London.
  4. The Kabaka has five children, who are; Prince Savio Muwenda or Juunju Suuna, Princess Joan Nassolo, Princess Victoria Nkinzi, Princess Katrina Sarah Kirabo Ssangalyambogo and Prince Richard Ssemakookiro. 
  5. As the head of the Buganda kingdom, he owns Nkuluze Trust, which runs the following kingdom properties: Buganda Land Board, which is responsible for kingdom land and other land matters, K2 Telecom, which is a telecommunication company, BBS Television, which is a kingdom TV, CBS FM, Majestic Brands, which deals in selling royal products, Ngule beer in collaboration with Uganda Breweries Ltd, Muganzirwazza Plaza, a commercial building in Katwe, a suburb of the Ugandan capital Kampala, Masengere building another building, which also houses Kingdom Television.
