Videos: NUP Exposes Alleged Ballot Stuffing In Kayunga LC5 By-Election

Kayunga: The hotly contested Kayunga district LC5 by-election has this morning kicked off with voters getting into ques as early as 6:30 am.

However, members of the National Unity Platform are already disappointed with the ongoing voting process with some reports of alleged irregularities being captured on video.

One of the videos being shared on the NUP platforms shows alleged ballot-stuffing at Namavundu Church polling station where voters found pre-ticked ballots at 6: 30 am and they claim that no voters had turned up at that time to have already voted and left.

According to the voices in the video, polling agents that subscribe to the NUP party are heard questioning Electoral Commission agents on why ballots are already in the ballot box at 6:30 am yet voting has to start at 7:00 am.

According to the latest reports, three members of parliament including Rubaga South MP-elect Aloysius Mukasa David Lukyamuzi Kalwanga elected MP of Busujju County (Mityana district), Daily monitor journalist along with other NUP agents have been arrested by Security operatives and whisked to an unknown destination.

The election has attracted six candidates including NRM’s Andrew Muwonge, NUP’s Harriet Nakweede, DP’s Anthony Waddimba and independent candidates Majid Nyanzi, Jamir Kamoga and Boniface Bandikubi.

The biggest contest is however between the NRM and NUP candidates in the race.

Located in Central Uganda, Kayunga has a population of slightly over 407,700  and according to the Electoral Commission, at least 190,000 people are expected to vote.

Carved out of Mukono district in 2000, Kayunga has three constituencies including Bbaale, Ntenjeru North and Ntenjeru South whereas the district also has 13 sub counties.

Kayunga also has 71 parishes, 407 villages and 338 polling stations according to data from EC.

According to the District Returning Officer, Jennifer Kyobutungi, Kayunga has eight areas that are normally hotbeds of violence during elections including Bbaale, Kayonza, Kitimbwa, Kayunga sub county, Kayunga town council, Kangulumira, Nazigo sub county and Nazigo town council.
