Kampala: Uganda Senior Women’s National Football Team, the Crested Cranes has qualified for the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations that will be staged in Morocco.

The development follows the withdrawal of Kenya from the qualifiers. It should be noted that Uganda was supposed to face the former in the final qualifying phase next.

The Crested Cranes were slated to face off with Harambe Starlets next month with the first leg scheduled for 17th February and the return leg coming a week later.
According to a communication from CAF, the Federation of Kenya Football (FKF) informed them about their decision to withdraw the team from the Qualifiers.

“We regret to inform you that we have just received Kenya FA a correspondence informing us of their withdrawal from Women AFCON- Morocco 2022,” reads the statement.
“Consequently, matches 45 and 46 are canceled. Uganda is automatically qualified to the next round of the competition.”

It should be noted that Uganda had eliminated Ethiopia in the previous round where the Crested Cranes overcome their counterparts on a penalty shout-out.

This will be the second appearance for Crested Cranes at the Africa Women Cup of Nations with the first coming in 2000.
Coincidentally, to qualify for the 2000 edition, DR Congo which was supposed to play Uganda in the qualifiers also withdrew.
