Entebbe: In a bid to boost and revamp the domestic tourism industry which has been badly hit by the Covid-19 pandemic, the National Carrier Uganda Airlines is in the process of reviving domestic flights in partnership with local operators.

This has been confirmed by Uganda Airlines Chief Executive Officer Jennifer Bamuturaki saying they have commenced discussions with two local operators including Eagle Air to work on all the required documentation to revive domestic routes.

Speaking to the media Bamuturaki said that after securing the Approved Maintenance Organization AMO certification by Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, this will enable the airline to reduce its dependence on foreign maintenance contractors, engineers among others hence transferring skills locally that will enable the local operators to revive domestic flights.

Bamuturaki further noted that the key focus areas for the Airline in 2022 will be an investment in customer retention systems, seeking strategic partnerships, growing cargo operations, network expansion, and championing the COVID-19 fight, especially encouraging vaccinations.

”Our network expansion plans for 2022 include direct flights to cities in Europe, India and the Far East, DRC, the Middle East in Saudi Arabia, Lagos Nigeria in West Africa and feasibility studies in these cities are underway” she noted

Meanwhile, the Airline is also undergoing evaluation processes by the UK CAA and EASA to operate in the United Kingdom and European Union.
