Uganda Airlines Cleared To Kick Off Flights To United Kingdom Via Intermediate Airport
Uganda Airlines has achieved yet another milestone after being cleared by the authorities in the United Kingdom to operate its flights through an intermediate airport.
According to Management, flights will commence after Entebbe International Airport goes through a security assessment exercise from the UK Safety and Security Department.
Sources at Entebbe also revealed that the Ugandan carrier was given intermediate airports in six countries in Africa and Europe, whose airports have a United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority security clearance including Kenya, Algeria, Egypt, Ghana, Tunisia and Turkey.
Uganda Airlines CEO Jenipher Bamuturaki has confirmed the news noting that they are now having internal meetings to see which of the countries suit their operations best adding that the approval activates the arrangements they had previously made on the ground in the UK for a possible launch of services during the summer of 2023.
“We now have to confirm with them and set up arrangements in line with our cargo designation. On the ground, we had already set up at the airport and what is left is for us to set up a marketing office and reactivate the slots we were initially allocated,” said Bamuturaki.
Uganda Airlines is the flag carrier of Uganda. The company is a revival of the older Uganda Airlines which operated from 1977 until 2001. The current carrier began flying in August 2019 and has made tremendous success such as adding new regional and international routes and other achievements.
