Ministry Of Education Launches Surveillance System To Detect Covid-19 Among Students

President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Maj Tom Magambo who has been in the Internal Security Organisations(ISO) as the new police Criminal Investigations Director.

“President Museveni has promoted Private Tom Magambo to the rank of Major and appointed him Director Criminal Investigations of the Uganda Police Force,” the acting UPDF spokesperson, Lt Col Ronald Kakurungu said in a statement.

Kampala: The Ministry of Education and Sports together with Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) have launched a Covid-19 Surveillance system aimed at early detection of Covid-19 among students as the country prepares for reopening on Monday 10 January 2022.

The launch was officiated by the state Minister for Education, Hon Moriku Kaducu at Buganda Road Primary school.

According to Kaducu, the new system will enable the government to monitor covid-19 cases in all schools on a daily basis and this will help in managing and treating the affected students,

“Each school will have a seven-member Covid-19 task force with a representative of learners. These will provide to the Ministry a daily update on covid-19 prevention or cases reported in the school,” she said.

”This will be done with the help of modern Information Communication Technology (ICT) equipment where data will be fed and for the schools without internet facilities, information will be sent in hard copy forms to the bio statistician who will feed it into the system” she added.

“These measures will help us in early detection of Covid-19 cases before they worsen, referring the victims to health facilities as well as coming up with new measures to prevent the spread before it’s too late,” Kaducu said.

In the same vein, the Executive Director of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Dorothy Kisaka expressed the readiness by KCCA) to support all schools in the struggle to ensure safe reopening for all learners.


At the launch, teachers from schools all over Kampala District were sensitized on how to prevent covid-19 as well as proper means of handling positive cases among learners.
