Parliament Temporarily Closed Over Water Shortage

Kampala: Parliament has been temporarily closed following a shortage of water. This follows a directive issued today by the office of the Clerk to Parliament ordering staff to vacate the building until further notice.

“Hon Members, following the earlier communication about the shortage of water in Parliament and closure of sanitary facilities, the Clerk to Parliament advises Members and staff of Parliament to vacate the building,” part of the memo reads

“The Department of Sergeant at Arms will provide updates on the progress of works as from National Water and Sewerage Corporation -NWSC. There will also be communication once the services are back to normal”. the memo added.

 National Water and Sewerage Corporation(NWSC) earlier announced that Kampala city center and surrounding areas will not have water for the next nearly 24 hours after one of their water supply at the main water supply station in Gaba developed a mechanical problem.

According to the Thursday statement, the affected areas include Nakasero, City Center, Kololo areas along Portbell road up to Bugolobi. Other areas are Mukwano, 5th and 6th street, Kanyanya, Nabweru, Kawempe Mbogo, and the surrounding areas.

Additionally, this will also affect the Muyenga service area, Acacia Avenue, Wandegeya, Namirembe, Mengo, Makerere, Kawempe, among other areas.
