Omicron Variant: Ministry Of Health Revamps Mandatory Covid-19 Testing Across Border Points Amidst Increasing Cases

President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Maj Tom Magambo who has been in the Internal Security Organisations(ISO) as the new police Criminal Investigations Director.
“President Museveni has promoted Private Tom Magambo to the rank of Major and appointed him Director Criminal Investigations of the Uganda Police Force,” the acting UPDF spokesperson, Lt Col Ronald Kakurungu said in a statement.
Kampala: Ministry of Health has scaled up mandatory Covid-19 testing at border points to reduce the rate of Covid-19 infections from neighboring countries.
According to the notice issued by the Ministry of Health, it’s now mandatory for all travelers to test for COVID-19 at border points before entering Uganda.
”All travelers and truck drivers entering Uganda shall be subjected to a mandatory Covid-19 PCR test at their own cost of UGX110,000 at every entry point,” the Ministry of Health said in a statement.
As if that’s not enough, the Ministry says health officials will only consider results only valid for seven days of truck drivers while in transit.
“After taking off the samples, clients shall be allowed to proceed and results of travelers shall be sent to their email addresses while truck drivers will receive theirs on smartphones.” the ministry adds.
The development comes at a time when the country is recording escalating numbers of daily infections.
As of today, the results of COVID-19 tests done on 31 December 2021 confirmed 1,936 new cases bringing the cumulative confirmed cases are 144,540.
The breakdown of the new cases is: 1,888 Alerts And Contacts: Kampala (1,072), Wakiso (323), Soroti (64), Gulu (49), Luweero (44), Mbarara (40), Kiruhura (25), Jinja (23), Oyam (21), Abim (17), Mbale (20), Busia (19), Kikuube (13), Tororo (17), Moyo (13), Rakai (11), Bududa (10).
