Kampala: Following the recent surge in Covid-19 cases, the Office of the President has announced the banning of unvaccinated staff and visitors from accessing the presidents’ office premises in a bid to control the spread of the deadly virus.

According to Hajji Yunusu Kakande, the secretary to the presidency, the new measures will affect staff at the Presidency, and daily visitors to the office according.

“Staff at the Presidency are hereby directed to only report for work with proof of full vaccination. This is done to ensure the safety of the occupants. Also, staff at the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) are subjected to the new rules.”

Kakande further noted that visitors with urgent business at both OPM and Presidency will have to address their concerns in writing adding that two desks will be set up at the premises to handle correspondences to the two offices.

” This has been done to ensure that there is no overcrowding inside the buildings, yet at the same time keep the public accessing services amid the pandemic induced inconveniences.” Kakande said in a statemet.

The directive will take effect as soon as the offices open for business from the festivities on Monday, 3rd, January 2022.

While delivering his new year message on Friday 31 December 2021, Museveni noted that there is complacency among the population including his own inner circles of workers of which many have tested positive on several occasions.

”Here, in the State House group, on account of laxity, we had recently so many cases. In the inner circle of
my workers, not less than 5 were found positive with corona on the 27th of December, 2021. That is why we had to postpone the meeting of the Secretary Generals of the Political Parties. Maama Janet and I had to have yet another corona test”. Museveni said.

”Fortunately, we were negative. Why? Possibly, because our workers, while they may be a lax while away from our presence, in our presence, they observe SOPs, wear masks and sanitizers,” He added.
