According to Adonyo Micheal Chris, the Regional Coordinator Lango region for NUP and NEC Member NUP, late last night, there was an attack by Police and UPDF at the hotel where several NUP members had booked to sleep in Omoro town.

“Last Night we were attacked in Omoro by Police and UPDF there was a scuffle, we are trying to find out who was arrested. As of now Comrade Flavia and Mosh are missing,” Adonyo said.

Mosh is the Makindye East 3 Lord Councilor, a position he attained during the general elections in January 2021 on the NUP card.

Meanwhile, NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has revealed that the military has resorted to arresting NUP mobilizers in Omoro.

According to Bobi Wine, the arrest happened throughout the night and the party does not know where some of its mobilisers were taken. It is said that the military targeted NUP supporters who were campaigning the party’s flagbearer.

“After a massive show of support for our candidate today, this night the military is violently picking up several of our mobilisers on the ground. The same people who said we don’t have support in the North!!” Bobi Wine posted on his Facebook page.

The NUP leader also revealed that they have decided to leave Omoro so that they can participate in the burial activities of their party members who perished in an accident that happened in Kumi district on Saturday.

“We took a decision to return immediately and participate in sending of our comrades!” Bobi Wine wrote.

The dead have been identified as Waiswa Denis from Iganga and Yakubu Kiggundu (Kawempe) while others are still nursing severe injuries.

Omoro county seat fell vacant on March 20 2022 following the death of the former Member of Parliament and former Speaker of the 11th Parliament Jacob Oulanyah in Seattle, America where he had been admitted for specialized treatment.

According to the electoral commission, campaigns are officially ending on May 24 2022 and elections shall take place on Thursday 26th May 2022 at all polling stations in Omoro County Constituency, and (polling) shall start at 7:00 am and close at 4:00 pm.
