NRM's Andrew Ojok Oulanyah Wins Omoro County By-elections With Landslide Victory

Kampala: The ruling National Resistance Movement(NRM) candidate, Andrew Ojok Oulanyah has been announced the winner of Omoro-County by-elections in a tight race to replace his late father Jacob Oulanyah.

According to the Electoral Commission, Ojok, polled 14,224 votes while his close rival Simon Toolit Aketcha of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) polled 1,633 votes, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Justine Odong got 520, another independent Jimmy Walter Onen got 95 votes and the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) flag bearer Oscar Kiiza managed to get only 60.

Speaking following his victory, Oulanyah said he is happy to continue the unifying role of his late father.

“This is a very important victory especially given the number of voters, it is a big statement. I want to thank all the candidates who stood, they gave an alternative. I want to thank the party and local leadership.  This election should unite us,” he said.

“We need to come back together as leaders of Omoro,” he added.
