President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Maj Tom Magambo who has been in the Internal Security Organisations(ISO) as the new police Criminal Investigations Director.

Kampala: Makerere University Business School (MUBs) has suspended end of semester two examinations that were scheduled to start on Thursday this week.

The MUBs Principal, Professor Waswa Balunywa halted the exams following protests by the students over missing marks from the previous semester.

Balunywa further noted that the exams will not be held until student leaders are able to confirm with a satisfactory response to all the genuine cases of missing results and other issues raised by students.

“I appeal to you to give us time to address these issues. We are now tackling third-year students’ issues and we hope that they are resolved in the next two days,” said Prof. Balunywa in a statement.

On Monday morning furious students stormed the university library in protest noting that marks from some course units were missing following the release of results two weeks ago adding that they didn’t reflect on their online records.

Other students raised concerns about a faulty grading system where some of them were given retakes even after scoring above the pass-mark when they sat for online examinations in October last year.

Failure to rectify the issue of missing marks automatically qualifies a student for a retake during their final examinations.

In addition, the students are also protesting that the university charges them 45,000 Uganda Shillings for student identity cards each academic year and yet they are issued once in the first year.

Meanwhile, Deputy Principal Prof. Moses Muhwezi has called upon students to remain patient as they follow up on their complaints with their respective departments emphasizing that a lot has already been done and more is still being done to resolve students’ issues in every way possible.
