President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Maj Tom Magambo who has been in the Internal Security Organisations(ISO) as the new police Criminal Investigations Director.

“President Museveni has promoted Private Tom Magambo to the rank of Major and appointed him Director Criminal Investigations of the Uganda Police Force,” the acting UPDF spokesperson, Lt Col Ronald Kakurungu said in a statement.

Kampala: Kampala Capital City Authority-KCCA has embarked on an operation to evict mobile money kiosks from the streets of Kampala. On Monday, KCCA removed kiosks from the Central Business District and the outskirts of Kampala in Ndeeba along Entebbe road.

The Deputy Spokesperson of KCCA, Robert Kalumba said the operation is intended to enforce order in the city, adding that the kiosks were established illegally. Last week, the Kampala Resident City Commissioner-RCC Hud Hussein ordered street vendors to vacate latest January Sunday 16th, 2022.

He said they should leave before they are helped to leave. During the operation on Monday, KCCA law enforcement officers were escorted by military police and officers from the police Field Force Units.

But Asaph Nahurira, the chairman of Uganda Street Vendors Association expressed dismay that KCCA impounded people’s kiosks yet they are the same people who licensed them and granted them permission to work in the areas.

He says the actions of the government are likely to render several youths idle since they have now lost employment. After the kiosk has been taken, he says, the business owners keep their mobile money business lines but their employees are likely to remain jobless until the business owner gets another area to operate.
