Gen. Muhoozi Trip To Rwanda Pays Off As He Returns With CFS Soldier Arrested Last Year

President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Maj Tom Magambo who has been in the Internal Security Organisations(ISO) as the new police Criminal Investigations Director.

“President Museveni has promoted Private Tom Magambo to the rank of Major and appointed him Director Criminal Investigations of the Uganda Police Force,” the acting UPDF spokesperson, Lt Col Ronald Kakurungu said in a statement.

 Kampala: Uganda’s first son who also doubles as the Commander of Land Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has returned to Kampala from a successful trip to Kigali, where he held a meeting with Rwanda President Paul Kagame.

Muhoozi’s charm must have worked well on Paul Kagame after he returned home with a prisoner, who was arrested on Rwanda soil last year.

Gen Kainerugaba, UPDF’s lands commander, flew on Saturday morning to Kigali to meet with President Kagame who has not met eye to eye with his father, President Yoweri Museveni over a political conflict that resulted in a border closure between two countries.

Tensions between the two countries have been souring over the past couple of years, leading to the shooting of Ugandans on Rwandan soil and border closures.

Rwanda accuses Uganda of sponsoring rebels and arresting Rwandans in Uganda. While Uganda makes counter-accusations to the southern neighbor, who has been accused of infiltrating the security of the pearl of Africa.

“We held very cordial and in-depth discussions about how to improve our bilateral relations. I’m confident that under the leadership of our two Presidents we shall be able to quickly restore our historical good relations,” Muhoozi said after the meeting

“I further thank President Kagame for honouring my request to release our SFC soldier, Private Ronald Arinda, who strayed into Rwandan territory on personal business without permission. I returned with him tonight to Uganda. Longlive the friendship of the two countries,” Muhoozi added.

Rwanda, in a statement from the Presidency, said “President Kagame and General Muhoozi had cordial, productive and forward-looking discussions about Rwanda’s concerns and practical steps needed to restore the relationship between Rwanda and Uganda.”

The visit comes days after Uganda’s Permanent Representative of Uganda to the United Nations Amb. Adonia Ayebare delivered a special message to Kigali in continued efforts to mend relations with Rwanda continued today.
