Fire guts Entebbe International Airport Passenger Terminal

Entebbe: This afternoon, work came to a standstill at Entebbe International Airport after a fire gutted the passenger lounge, commonly known as the Departure Terminal at the facility.

According to a statement released by Vianney Mpungu Luggya the Manager of Public Affairs, Uganda Civil Aviation Authority a minor fire broke out in the ceiling of the Passenger Terminal Building at Entebbe International Airport (Departures area) leading to smoke in the Passenger Waiting Lounges near the gate 2A and 2B at about 3:00 pm this afternoon.

Statement From CAA

Passengers and all the other users of Entebbe International Airport were immediately evacuated as the UCAA Rescue and Fire-fighting Services team handled the situation, which was normalized by 3:45 pm and Passenger operations have since resumed.

According to Luggya, the incident did not lead to any casualties and the source and cause of the fire is being investigated.

The fire was put out 45 minutes later by the UCAA Rescue and Fire-fighting Services team. Passenger operations have since resumed.

However, the incident disrupted operations, especially for departing passengers.

“Inconveniences caused by the incident to the departing passengers and other users of Entebbe International Airport are highly regretted,” Luggya added.
