Kampala: Deputy Attorney General Hon. Jackson Kafuuzi has expressed interest in the speakership race along with the deputy speaker Anita Among who has already picked nomination forms through her personal assistant, Mary Athieno this morning from the NRM Secretariat In Kyadondo.

While picking nominations from the NRM secretariat in Kyadondo, Jackson Kafuuzi revealed that he is fit for the position of speaker of the 11th parliament having gained vast experience from former speaker Rebbeca Kadaga and Jabob Oulanyah as her deputy during their tenure.

“If CEC and my party caucus endorse me as a candidate, I will resign from my position as Deputy Attorney General,” he said.

Kafuuzi graduated with a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Makerere University in 2002 and obtained a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre in 2003. From that time, he has been in service as a Legal Officer and later as an Advocate at Rwakafuuzi & Co. Advocates, until 2016 when he joined parliament.

According to the government Chief whip Thoms Tayebwa, all NRM MPs wishing to vie for the position must pick forms from the party headquarters before the end of today (March 22).

Meanwhile, West Budama member of parliament and minister of state for Defence, Jacob Oboth is yet to resign his position as a minister to contest for the speakership position among others including Abdu Katuntu, Theodore Sekibubo.

Oboth said he will consider resigning from the cabinet after the NRM has decided on the matter.
