Kampala: Embattled Pastor Aloysius Bujjingo, the lead pastor at the House of prayer ministries, and his new wife Suzan Namakula Makula have been summoned by Entebbe Chief Magistrates Court to answer to five counts preferred against them.

The couple was dragged to court by city lawyer Male Mabirizi who ran to court to block their wedding, insisting that Bugingo is already married.

This followed Bujjiingo’s introduction at Suzan Makula’s parents’ home last week in Kyebando despite the fact that he is still legally married to Teddy Naluswa Bujjingo who has since declined to grant him a divorce.

Now, Entebbe Chief Magistrates Court has issued criminal summons to Bujjingo and Makula and asked them to report to the court on January 21, 2022, to answer the charges.

According to the summons, Bujjingo and Makula have five charges to answer to including; Adultery which is contrary to section 154 of the penal code act, Bigamy (conducting two marriages) which is contrary to section 41 of the Marriage act, marriage with a person previously married, and conducting a fictitious marriage.

Other charges are contracting a marriage in customary law when already married under the marriage act.

If Bujjingo and Suzan Makula lose the case, they are likely to face a 5 years jail term.

It’s worth noting that last week, Born-again pastors under their umbrella organization, the National Fellowship of Born Again Pentecostal Churches of Uganda denounced Bujjingo and his House of Prayer Ministries on the same matter referring to his marriage proceedings with Makula as a ‘misconduct and against the church doctrines and beliefs.

“On the 14th May 2019, Bishop Lwere, the General Overseer of the National Fellowship of Born Again Pentecostal Churches of Uganda, accompanied by three elders, namely, Apostle Alex Mitala, Elder Peterson Sozi, and Bishop Morris Bukenya met and admonished Pastor Bujjingo to stop using the pulpit and media to settle his family and marital issues,” read the statement in part.

“We told him it was totally unethical and unbiblical to discuss his wife in public and advised him to separate church and family matters. He promised to stop and it was agreed that these elders would observe him for three months,” added the statement.

Bujjingo however continued to discuss his wife in public, behavior church leaders said is against the Christian ministerial doctrines and beliefs.

“Unfortunately, to our utter dismay and disappointment, Pastor Aloysius Bujjingo has continued abusing, degrading, and shaming his family and wife Mrs. Teddy Naluswa Bugingo, over matters which any husband, believer, and much less a pastor or leader, ought never to say about his wife. This is contrary to Christian ministerial ethics and practices,” said the statement.

“We have further learned that Pastor Aloysius Bujjingo is proposing to divorce his wife to marry another, and publicly encouraging others to do so. We want to emphatically state that we strongly condemn what Pastor Aloysius Bujjingo is proposing and doing,” said the statement.

“As Church leaders, we preach and teach marital faithfulness, forgiveness, and reconciliation and we do not condone marital unfaithfulness, immorality, divorce, and other doctrines that undermine the sanity of family and marriage.”

“Therefore, we hereby denounce, and dissociate ourselves from Pastor Aloysius Bujjingo’s practices, outbursts, behavior and doctrine,” they said
