Breaking! 20 People Confirmed Dead, Scores Injured After Link Bus Lost Control Near Fort Portal City

Kampala: A bus attached to Link Bus Services, reg. No. UBA 003S, with over 40 people onboard has reported veered off near Forportal City along Kampala- Kasese Highway with several people feared dead and others severely injured.

According to the spokesperson for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, Faridah Nampiima, so far 20 people have been confirmed dead, out of whom thirteen are adults while 7 are juveniles.

She further revealed that out of the twenty, 11 are male and nine are female and their particulars will be availed in due course.

”The territorial Police in Kyenjojo responded to a fatal accident that occurred this morning at around 10.30 am, involving a link bus reg No UBA 003S that was traveling to Kampala from Fort portal. It happened 2KMs from Fortportal city at a place called Sebitoli,” she confirmed.

”The injured have been rushed to Buhinga hospital for first aid while the dead are at the same hospital for postmortem. A detailed traffic investigative report to be shared later,” she added.

Meanwhile, Police in Budaka today also confirmed another fatal accident that happened at Mailo tano, Mbale-Tirinyi road killing six people on spot.

The accident involved motor vehicles Reg no- UAT 995A (Raum) and UBH 437K (Toyota Hiace) and UBJ 676W (Toyota Hiace).

According to police, the deceased people have been identified as; Mulabi David, Namarome Fatima, Nambafu kurusum, Kafero isaka, and a yet to be identified male adult.

Nandigobe Saida sustained serious injuries while two others who have not been identified survived the accident.

Police have attributed the cause of the accident to overspeeding by the speeding taxi UBJ 676W.

The drivers of both Toyota Hiaces are on the run, and efforts are underway to have them arrested.
