Kampala: The Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has appealed to the people of Teso sub region to reject politicians who frustrate government projects which are meant to eradicate poverty among Ugandans.

Among said this during a ceremony to ordain priests and deacons at Holy Family Parish, Gweri in Soroti Diocese. She urged the people to send to Parliament leaders who will best represent the interests of the people.

“Regardless of political affiliation, send to Parliament leaders who will best represent the interests of the people, not those that oppose every programme at every chance they get,” she said.

Among asked the religious leaders to use their position to encourage people to always take part in government programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM).

“You have the experience and power to work with everyone regardless of political affiliation. Use this to spread the news and importance of different government programs that benefit our people at the grassroots,” she said.

Among used the ceremony which was presided over by Soroti Diocese Bishop, Rt Rev Dr Joseph Eciro to call upon the people of Teso to support  Herbert Ariko in the forthcoming Soroti East by-election.

“Its upon this background that I have decided to bring back your foot soldier Engoorit Herbert Ariko, who has been working in my office as executive secretary, back to you and he will be contesting in the Soroti City East by-election on NRM ticket,” Among noted.

Among also made a cash contribution of Sh100 million towards the construction of Regina Acheli Cathedral and Sh100 million for the bishop’s house.
